The Saga Society is a community for all Christians — Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, etc. — who love tabletop roleplaying games and other similar imaginative hobbies. By Christian we mean those who affirm traditional Christian doctrines, ethics, and practices as defined in the Nicene Creed (Trinitarianism: 3 Persons, 1 Divine Essence; and orthodox Christology: Jesus Christ is 1 Person, 2 Natures, both divine and human) and believed and practiced since the earliest days of the Church.

While currently focused on tabletop roleplaying games, our community more broadly promotes all heroic and imaginative hobbies with a traditional, Christian worldview that help create and sustain traditional Christian culture. We believe imaginative hobbies such as tabletop roleplaying games are a great way to develop the moral imagination.

Our Goals

We are a community of Christians who create Christian culture through tabletop games, fiction, and other imaginative hobbies.

At a high level, our goal is to:

  • Introduce new people to games and literature as hobbies for Christian fellowship
  • Connect gamers and fans of heroic, imaginative fiction with one another (either locally or on-line)
  • Interact and discuss these topics through social media and forums
  • Review games, books, and movies through the lens of traditional Christian values
  • Enable new hobby clubs through group guidelines, game reviews, gaming tools, and free resources

What We Do

Community — We provide and moderate a Facebook group and a Discord community. In the future we can consider other media such as a self-hosted private forum or other options should the need arise. One benefit of this community is being able to find other like-minded individuals with whom to fellowship and discuss our shared hobby interests.

Advice — Our website and blog is a place with articles, advice, tips, and reviews about ‘analog’ hobbies such as tabletop games, book clubs, and other ways Christians can connect and build culture and community.

Resources — On the website (and cross-posted to our social media groups) will be links to curated resources such as podcasts, forums, games, tools, and other resources for families wanting to start or manage games or other hobbies.

Events — We would like to run events, perhaps an annual online-game convention and potentially an in-person convention, each spaced six months apart. Both events would be similar to Doxacon, but more focused on gaming.

Interfaith Hospitality

We adhere to the culture and values of the early church, as embodied in the Nicene Creed. Our goal is not to proselytize or argue doctrine, but rather to simply provide hospitable fellowship groups to enjoy games, reading, and writing related to speculative fiction in keeping with the morals and values of traditional Christianity.

Our Governing Structure

The Saga Society is an informal, grass-roots organization led by Eastern Orthodox Christian volunteers with community membership spanning several Christian faith traditions.
